VINTAGE DESCRIPTION

2002 was a hotter and dryer growing season than is the norm in our region. The warm days made for exceptional maturation, and our cool evening breezes allowed for a long hang time well into the fall. While the vines were stressed, we were able to take the fruit to full maturity and sugar level.
John Ellis, our winemaker, found the fruit exceptionally flavorful and ready for the making of an extraordinary wine. Picking was done in a single session, using on-the-spot selection.
WINEMAKING

As is customary for Pretty Sally wines, little intervention is allowed during the making of our wines. The objective is to allow the flavors to develop naturally. Pressing, maceration and fermentation are carried out with attention to detail to provide the ideal conditions during each stage. After fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel, the wine was aged for 19 months in new American oak barrels. Bottling was in January 2004 and the wine will be released in the spring of 2004.
TASTING NOTES

Full bodied, mysterious and loaded with complex flavors. Shows intense aromas of spices, pepper-steak, red pepper, plum and berries. The palate is layered with flavors of highly extracted bright berry fruit, pepper and hints of espresso beans that linger in the finish. A cool climate shiraz that speaks the terroir with a strong Northern-Rhone twist.
