VINTAGE DESCRIPTION

2003 was another great year at the Pretty Sally vineyard. The sun was warm and abundant during the day with our daily afternoon cool breeze from Port Phillip. We continue to experience lower than normal rain levels but our reservoir provided all the needed water with minimal back up from our well. We dropped fruit to low yields of around 2.3 tons/acre, resulting in grapes with extraordinary concentration. This year, harvest was completed right on schedule as the grapes had reached very good sugar levels while maintaining good acidity. Picking was done in a single session with on-the-spot selection.

WINEMAKING

The fruit was fermented in temperature- controlled stainless steel tanks. After maceration, wine was barreled in all new French oak for 19 months. Following our winemaking philosophy of minimal intervention, the process was allowed to follow its natural course, yet always under meticulous scrutiny to avoid any flaws. The wine shows the natural evolution of the vines and the terroir.

TASTING NOTES

Dark red. Rich, spicy cherry on the nose, along with dark chocolate, vanilla and oak accents. Firm on the palate, with minty dark berry flavors and strongly oak-spicy notes of pepper and clove.
