VINTAGE DESCRIPTION

2005 was a superb vintage at Pretty Sally. We had great weather conditions with good rainfall early in the year and nice hot days and cool nights. Extensive canopy management was done to optimize sun exposure. The fruit was harvested at 24.4 Brix with a good acid balance. As usual, 2005 picking was carried out by hand, in a single session using on-the-spot selection.

We are continuing to expand our vine plantings of Sauvignon Blanc, given the critical and public acclaim this wine has received. What started as 400 vines of Sauvignon Blanc in the corner of our test plot is now the focus of our growth with 20 new acres of Sauvignon Blanc vines planted in 2005 that will be introduced with vintage 2007.

WINEMAKING

The fruit was pressed and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Johnâtms exceptional attention to detail was applied to selecting the transition points in the process. Fermentation was done to dryness, and no malolactic fermentation or oak influence was involved. The extraordinary fruit was transformed without manipulation into a simply stunning wine.

TASTING NOTES

A very clean, intense and intriguing Sauvignon Blanc that is fruit forward and crisp. Nose is intense with orchard fruit (white peach, pear, apples), with notes of passion fruit and lychee. Palate is complex and crisp, yet viscous. Finish is beautifully long and intriguing.
